Under the Anguillan sun
I wade into the ocean
Seagrass brushes up against
My legs and arms as gently
as a hungry cat — waves crash
The tide pulses in and out
Sand churns into clouds beneath
La Mama says: Surrender
A water ballet ensues
Ships pass on the horizon
Mourning doves and lizards watch
Silent sentinels on shore
Affirming my choice to be
Seeking solace in the sea
