The Red Thread
I have been tied to you all my life
for better
for worse
our stories are intertwined
a mere cord
a red string
a silken thread
binds us
on the floor
trying to disappear
desperate to escape
resentment became a badge of honor
duty became all
every little thing
every right thing
felt wrong
intuitions stifled
anger muffled
random cards reshuffled
down the rabbit hole
I went/I go
only to be fished out
lured back up
by the line that binds us
the red thread
that sometimes feels more like a rope
lassoed ‘round my heart
for better
for worse
the ties of family
always find me
